Student Life

What the day holds beyond the timetable — the stage, the sports field, the veranda, and the habits a student leaves with.

School is more than the timetable

Sixteen Secondary School students in two rows on a school veranda, each holding a potted plant or sapling they have grown.

A student spends six years here, from Standard V to the S.S.C. Examination, and the part they remember is rarely the part that was examined. It is the term they were trusted to lead something, the afternoon they argued a case in front of the school, the plant that was theirs to keep alive.

The school runs a wide range of co-curricular activities through the year for exactly that reason — and behind every one of them is a teacher who planned it.

What runs through the year

  • Sports events

Alongside P.T. and mass drill, which are on the timetable for every standard rather than an optional extra.

  • Cultural performances

Programmes staged in the school hall, rehearsed over weeks with the teachers who organise them.

  • Music, dance and art

Art & Craft is a timetabled subject from Standard V, and the performing arts run beside it through the year.

  • Debates and competitions

Where confidence is built by having to hold a position in front of people who might disagree with it.

  • Science practicals and computer seminars

Timetabled laboratory work and seminars in the computer laboratories, taught by the Computer Section’s own staff.

  • Mindfulness and meditation

Guided sessions in the school hall — wellbeing given a place on the timetable rather than a mention in a prospectus.

What is expected in return

Students are expected to communicate in English at all times, to attend at least 75% of the working days in the year, and to come to school in a clean, well-ironed uniform with hair and nails kept short.

Discipline is expected in the ordinary movements of the day too — going out to P.T., to mass drill, to science practicals and to computer seminars. The full list is on the rules and uniform page, in the school’s own words.
