Sports
Physical education on the timetable, sports and games among the year’s competitions, and the section’s own Annual Sports Day.
How sport runs through the year
- A subject, not a free periodSports and Physical Education is one of the seven strands the section teaches alongside the academic timetable, and it is taught as a subject in its own right rather than as whatever is left of an afternoon.
- Sports and games among the year’s competitionsTwelve competitions run through the year — recitation, fancy dress, elocution, drawing and painting, story telling, group singing, handwriting, work experience, clay work, rangoli, best out of waste, and sports and games. Every child in Grades 1 to 4 has a dozen chances to find the one they are good at.
- Room for it on the campusThe section has space for the sports, drawing, clay work, rangoli and group singing it competes in — a netted turf pitch, used through the school day and for the sports day itself.
- The Annual Sports Day, and a podiumThe section holds its own Annual Sports Day. Results are read out at a numbered podium on the pitch, first, second and third, with the rest of the year group watching from the touchline.
