Student Life
What a Kindergarten day actually looks like — a short day, built around play, with time to settle into it.
The shape of the day
- A short day, on purposeJr. KG runs from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., Sr. KG from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. Long enough to settle into a routine, short enough that a four-year-old is still enjoying it at the end.
- Learning at a table, togetherChildren work in small groups at child-height tables rather than in rows, so a teacher is never more than a step away and children learn as much from each other as from the board.
- Time to moveDance, movement and sports in the play area break up the day. At this age sitting still is a skill being learned, not one to be assumed.
- Something made, most daysDrawing, colouring and finger, thumb and palm painting — work that goes home and gets put on a fridge.
