Milestones we build towards
Foundational literacy
The alphabet and phonics in Jr. KG, then blending sounds into words and reading simple sentences by the end of Sr. KG.
Early number sense
Counting, number recognition and the first ideas of more and less, worked through objects and pictures before they are written down.
Motor skills
Drawing, colouring and finger, thumb and palm painting for the small muscles; dance, movement and sports for the large ones.
Social and emotional growth
Sharing a table, taking a turn, joining a group and standing up in a fancy dress or a festival — the parts of school that are not on a worksheet.
How progress is shared
- Continuous observation, not examinationsThere are no examinations in the Kindergarten years. Teachers watch how a child is getting on day to day, which at this age tells them far more.
- Through the class teacherAnything about your own child — how they are settling, what they are finding hard — is answered fastest by the person who teaches them.
- In the school diaryThe diary goes home with your child and is the everyday line between the classroom and the kitchen table.
