Sports
Movement every day in the play area, and the section’s own sports day once a year — with a podium, trophies and a prize distribution to close it.
What sport looks like at this age
- Time to move, every dayDance, movement and sports in the play area break up the day. At this age sitting still is a skill being learned, not one to be assumed, so the timetable is built to interrupt it rather than to extend it.
- A supervised space to play inThe play and activity area is a supervised space for games and structured play — turf underfoot, netted at the sides, and a member of staff with the group throughout.
- One sports day a year, for the whole sectionThe section holds its own annual sports day on the pitch. Every child is in kit for it, the events are run through the morning, and the results go up on a numbered podium.
- Prizes, and a prize day to give them out atFirst Prize, Second Prize and Consolation — trophies and certificates, handed out at a prize distribution afterwards rather than in passing on the pitch, so the children collect them in front of the section.
