Student Wall

What the students made, staged and walked this year.

Charts made by students

A hand-made physics chart on units and physical quantities, with coloured panels on errors, dimensions and measurement around a table of formulae and SI units.

Units and physical quantities: absolute, relative and percentage error down one side, the principle of homogeneity down the other, and a table of formulae, SI units and dimensional formulae through the middle — density, acceleration, momentum, force, impulse, work, kinetic energy.

Every panel is cut, coloured and lettered by hand. Copying a table out of a textbook teaches almost nothing; laying one out so that somebody else can read it means having understood it first.

Ways a student takes part

  • On the stage

The Independence Day programme in the hall — white and tricolour, rehearsed over weeks and performed to the whole college.

  • On the trail

Environmental studies field work, looking closely at a single sapling rather than at a photograph of one.

  • At the bench

Practical work in the physics laboratory, with the apparatus set out and the readings taken by the student, not demonstrated at the front.

  • On the wall

Charts made for the laboratory and the corridor, drawn and lettered by hand so the next class can read them.

The year in photographs

  • Students in white kurtas with tricolour sashes standing in formation in the college hall during a patriotic performance, one of them holding up a picture of an Indian Navy fleet.

The Independence Day programme in the hall, 2025

  • A group of college students and their teachers standing among trees on a woodland trail, one photographing a sapling closely while the others look on.

    An environmental studies field visit

  • A member of the physics department at a laboratory bench setting up a measuring cylinder and apparatus, with a resistance box and a case of instruments laid out beside him.

    The Physics laboratory

  • The college library on an ordinary afternoon — students reading and working at long tables by a row of windows, with book stacks, computers and a globe on the counter.
